Over the years I knew Dr Elisabeth Kubler Ross, I had promised her a gift . . . a painting. On July 8, 1990 there was to be a celebration and dedication of the new EKR center. This also coincided with Elisabeth's Sixty-fourth birthday. The angel painting was completed and given to Elisabeth the day before the dedication. In the succeeding years, I felt honored that thousands, many terminally ill or bereaved participants in Elisabeth's work shops, would understand the painting. There it stayed until the center closed in 1995. At that time Elisabeth came to me and asked if I would like to have the painting back. "You should have it." It now hangs in my home. This print was created from the original painting.

This lithograph is from the artist private collection. It was created and printed in Clayton, Georgia. (1975) A small number of prints were held back and have been stored by the artist for thirty-five years.

The subject of this print, an old farmhouse, was the culmination of a long history with this antiquated structure.

PLATE 006 - MIDWEST FARM HOUSE -1967 - 30" X 42" - Oil on canvas.

(From Retrospective). . . .Through a series of paintings of an old farm house. Now, I see these painting as self portraits. In every case the house is empty and fragile, a shell of things been. Isolated and alone. Looming on the horizon is the darkness of a storm, threatening, or has the storm past. In all of these portraits it would seem that the external world around me was constantly changing. The house remained the same. I placed this farm house, with the identical architecture, in many paintings. Even I find that a little curious. What is perhaps more curious is that I did find the actuality this old house.

In 1969, my parents had retired and moved to Florida, about 100 miles from where I lived Orlando. The first time I went to see them and as I was pulling into their driveway, there it was. No, not their home, but right next door. There before my eyes was this empty, old derelict house with the identical architecture. I photographed it and in 1975 I did a lithograph of it including all the architectural details missing from the painted version.

Framing Suggestions . . . .

To create a protected and aesthetically pleasing frame, may I suggest the following . . .
Always use acid free, 100% Rag Mat Board.
This creates a protected environment for any works of art on paper.
Double mat the work using white mat board along with large margins (over size mats).
This creates a three dimensional effect and adds emphasis to the art work.
The example shown here is for “Falling Light II”

The image size is 14.5” x 7.5”. For the mat, add 5.5” to the top and both sides.
Add 8.5” to the bottom.
The frame used here is a simple metal section frame.
